The kitchen is the heart & soul of any home

The kitchen at Milton Lodge is no exception - warm, welcoming and offering everything you need to gather, entertain and have fun.

THE KITCHEN & CONSERVATORY

At the heart of the house is the modern and newly renovated kitchen with a dining table for 12.

This is an exceptionally large and bright space with French Doors leading straight to the garden and views of the mountains.

With masses of work space and equipped to a very high standard, this is a country kitchen that makes cooking easy and fun.

Appliances include an Aga, electric oven and 6 ring gas burner, a  fridge/freezer, a separate small fridge conveniently located near the hot tap and Nespresso machine. There are two dishwashers, after all, who wants to spend time washing up on holiday?

The kitchen leads into the conservatory, a wonderfully warm and sunny space with doors onto the garden. This room has additional space for dining and a sofa where you can truly relax and take in the birdsong and dramatic highland scenery.

A TASTE OF THE CAIRNGORMS

The kitchen in Milton Lodge has been firmly designed and equipped with cooking in mind, so if you're the chef, then the National Park has great local produce, independent butchers and some astoundingly good delicatessens.

BUTCHERS

We're very fortunate to have traditional family butchers in the Cairngorms, all with specially selected beef, lamb, pork, poultry, venison and game and also fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy produce, cooked meats and pies.

Just outside Aviemore sits Rothiemurchus Farm shop. It sells Estate-reared beef, venison and trout and a extensive choice of Scottish biscuits, chocolates, honey and preserves, many of which are especially made for Rothiemurchus.

For the serious gourmet and one of the best food halls in the north of Scotland, The House of Bruar offers a wealth of fine food, including a butchery, a market stall full of seasonal produce and an impressive array of gins and whiskey.

For a fabulous selection of artisan and farmhouse cheese, homemade bread and chutneys and small producer delights, try The Cheese Neuk.

FISH & SHELLFISH

In Aviemore you will find Scottish seafood at its very best from this delightful family run business.

Regular event hosting the region’s top suppliers of meats, artisan cheeses, ales, smoked fish, ice cream, vegetables, free-range eggs, home baking, crafts and many other treats, held at Kingussie, Aviemore and Grantown-on-Spey.

For a day out that is all about food and drink why not book a cooking lesson or a whisky safari with Ghillie Basan, the internationally renowned chef and food writer.

Cooking with Ghillie in her warm and atmospheric kitchen with stunning views of the surrounding hills is an experience in itself. Here you can smell and taste herbs, foraged ingredients and spices that you may never have dreamed of using, while you prepare simple and exotic dishes from around the world. Take a look at Spirit & Spice to get inspired!
